Cool clothes in the eco heated home
With a good eco friendly heating system such as a big wood burning stove, it can sometimes get too hot in the living room. As winter gets colder, so the stove gets stoked up more and more with well seasoned logs from the local farm.
So having a good selection of clothes which can be worn when the room is hot but its cold outside has to be considered. The possibility is that at some time you will have to go out and get some more logs, so having a good warm jumper to hand is useful. The cooled shirt or top is great for sitting by the fire and watching TV, and the kids can do the same in the loose cotton gear.
The best material is cotton or linen as this is lightweight and easy to wear under something warmer. Once the stove is up and running at high temperatures then the out jumper can be taken off and the cool cotton underneath is sufficient to stay comfortably warm. A warm pair of cosy moccasin slippers is another ideal part of the cool but warm outfit for the well heated house running off natural resources such as wood or solar.
But as with the jumper a pair of tough boots should be waiting on the doorstep out side for when you have to nip out for more logs or to replenish the log basket. The basket holds about 20 logs and it is possible to get through quite few on a very cold night. The cost of all this is minimal with a 6 month load averaging out at about £100 – so that’s £200 for a entire year of hot water, room heating -, and even the clothes aren’t going to be too expensive.
